These characters are not to be confused with members of the royal guard. They’re regulars from the army. Both sides seem to have very strict physical requirements to become a guard member. The royal guard is considered to be an elite fighting force though they are rarely seen at the front. The main reason is because of there small numbers and they’re primarily bodyguards. Most of the bloodiest fighting is done by the average enlisted pony that can’t get into the guard.

These are members of the lunar 5th army. Winter has arrived on what is to become know as the dreaded northern front. The enemy has air superiority and has successfully cut off all supply lines to the south. All their food and medical supplies have been exhausted days ago. Reinforcements won’t be able to reach them until spring. If not by the enemy then most will likely die from disease and starvation.

Don’t like it? Well then draw your own dam art.

The original unmodified version of the lunar flag design that I used for this can be found at nadiarodriguez.deviantart.com/…

that also what ya gotta love about warfare, if not the enemy, then you will most likely perish from enviromental hazards.....or the indigeous life forms\

i wish i could draw art as good as you.....i would draw only suffering and despair though, usualy at the hands of xenomorphs, i can even think of what the charecters in this picture are thinking

....my fifth day as a member of the lunar 5th army.....it was cold, painful, misserable, chaotic......nothing at all like the training that we go through back at the base......of course thats pretty much the way it was for all of us wasent it?
all those MONTHS of training.......it dosent really prepare you for all the screaming, all the blood dose it?
frankly im still amazed we made it through the first hour, never mind the first day

and if you did one where their in a jungle (possibly with sweat, indicating that its hot as satans ass and they still have to wear armour)

its been said that the lunar 5th army got the best of the war........we also got the worst, on -INSERT LOCATION NAME HERE- the Celestial armies dug their greedy hooves into the muck of that jungle Hell-hole and dared the lunar armies to come in after them......so we did

only to be met with the month after month of flesh eating diseases, pony-hunting predators and other sights that haunt me to this day......cut off and for all we knew abandoned by our supiriors, our only hope was -NAME HERE-, our commander, without her/him i....and well.....none of us would have come out of that mess with our sanity......or our lives......if their death comes.....i hope it is quick.....they earned that much

Um, I don't think you'll need that warning son.
This is very tame, by this site's standards. Trust me, I have been here for more than half a decade now.
This is my 2nd account actually.

I think your right. I never actually read the DA rules so I thought it would be better to be safe then sorry. The last thing I need is another wanabe internet cop that thinks he's going to save the world by crying to the mods that I violated some stupid rule.

Well technically every picture has a back story. For the most part I only submit artwork. I haven’t written any stories on here as of yet. There are quite a few images and stories out there about the pony civil war fanfic. But everyone depicts the story very differently from one to another.

I would love to hear more about the trials of the lunar 5th army.

The night was colder than the last as the ponies huddles around their pitiful campfire each clutching the half cup of thin vegetable broth they were rationed from boiling the ends and pieces of discarded meals still frozen from months ago.
"Why are we staying again Captain?" a private asked. "Why are we staying here to die?" The private was looking towards the bright fires of the Solar army's camp.
"We're tying up the Solar 3rd and 7th armies and the 14th air wing so that they can't flank the main Lunar army." It was the same reason he had given them for the last three weeks and the only one he was likely to give them any time soon.
The private through his cup down spilling it's precious contense. "I signed up to fight, not to starve to death! Look at them," she pointed to the solar camp, "They're in control here! They could overwhelm us, or bypass us, or do whatever the hay they want! They're only staying here to wtch us slowly kill ourselves!"
The captain remained silent, tactically the private was correct, the Solar army could slip by them but then they would be able to resupply and move against them. Still it was easy to hear the unspoken begging to be allowed to surrender. "We're staying here as long as we need to."
"Why! Why kill ourselves for a princess, a country, that has forgotten about us," the private screamed.
"Lost, but never forgotten." The voice was calm and collected and not one that the captain recognized. Many of the other soldiers were also startled and quickly chugged their broth before jumping to their hooves and grabbing theit spears.
A shadow took form on the edge of the firelight, it was a stocky pegasus stallion the captain didn't recognize dressed in lunar armor, well a variant thereof, it was lighter and modified for the harsh winter weather. Looking closly in the low flickering light the captain made out an insignia, the royal lunar guard!
"I bring you titings from Princess Luna," the stallion greeted the group as three more shaped took form, two earth ponies and a unicorn. "Luna, on behalf of the republic, wishes to thank you for your perseverance under extraordinary circumstances. Your sacrifice is a testimate to the ponies of the republic and one that has born fruit." The group of ponies leaned close to hear word of the ouside world. "The main lunar army has pushed back the solar assult and driven them back into the empire. They are regrouping for another assult; however Princess Luna feels that we have the momentum to send a relief force to aid you. It will take some weeks but do not loose hope."
The royal guard and his companions each set down two large pairs of saddle bags, "To aid you until relief arrives." He turned back to the captain, "Captain do you have any reports for the princess?"
The captain nodded and hoofed over a saddle bag of his own. "Food!" a pony cried, from the dropped saddle bags, "And medical supplies!" another added. The captain looked back to the guard after the distraction, "Who..." but the group had already slipped back into the darkness. "Food to the mess tent for rationing! Medicine to the doctor! Now!"

Thanks for the complements. I saw your work and the story just appeared in my mind and I knew I had to get it out right away or I'd never do it. I ended up loosing about an hours sleep to get it all done, but if it's given you incentive to keep drawing that's awesome!

I might post the story as a stand alone project on my page, any problem with me putting a link to your picture?

Somewhat similar battlefield conditions to WWII. As well as many other lesser know wars throughout history. Just keep in mind that this isn’t a drawing of WWII. That war is still a politically hot topic, so I would prefer not to go there. This is meant to be a totally different war. All fantasy of course.
